Rubrics: EDUCATION
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
Introduction. Academic performance in pharmaceutical education is considered a systemic outcome formed through interaction among the student, the teacher, the educational programme and the university environment. Objective. To substantiate a transition from managing the consequences of academic underachievement to diagnosing and managing academic risks in pharmaceutical education. Materials and Methods. The study used a systems analysis of factors affecting pharmaceutical education, a comparative analysis of survey results obtained from students and academic staff, and materials from an expert discussion. Results and discussion. Differences were identified in how participants in the educational process perceive the causes of academic difficulties. Academic staff more often emphasised self-discipline and time management, whereas students pointed to workload, fatigue, health status and limited opportunities to improve results. A typology of academic risks and a risk-oriented model for managing the conditions required to achieve educational outcomes were proposed. Conclusion. A university can manage not academic grades themselves, but the conditions for achieving educational outcomes through early risk identification, diagnosis, support routing and evaluation of support effectiveness.
